Big East Conference Men's Lacrosse

Currently the league has Denver (Associate Member), Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, and Villanova. I think it would be good for the Big East Conference if Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Seton Hall, and Xavier added Men's Lacrosse, so all full Big East members would sponsor it. Denver could then seek Men's Lacrosse associate membership in another conference. The University of Denver is currently the only associate Big East member in a men's sports. The other 6 Big East associate members (Cincinnati, Connecticut, Florida, Old Dominion, Temple, and Vanderbilt) are associate members in some women's sports.

It would be nice if we all sponsored the same sports, but I don't see it happening. First of all, most of our schools aren't looking to add more sports. Basketball is our sport, everything else is to meet NCAA requirements. Second, Denver is a nationally recognized power in the lacrosse world. Denver gives us a certain amount of legitimacy in the same way Johns Hopkins gives the newly formed B1G lacrosse conference legitimacy. Finally, even if we were interested in kicking Denver out and only having Big East schools we wouldn't need everybody to pick up lacrosse. We only need 6 for a lacrosse conference.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Certain amount of legitimacy is an understatement. The rest of the conference gains significantly in SOS and RPI BECAUSE of Denver in exchange for an AQ and likely the favorite for the near future. Just to clarify, 6 schools are needed for the AQ; there can be less and still be a conference.

Correct. I probably could have worded that better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Xavier added men's and women's lax in the next 10 years.

But yeah, kicking out Denver would be absurd. They went to the Final Four last year.

As of today Denver is ranked 1, Marquette 16, Nova is receiving votes but the lacrosse rankings only go to 20 so they are actually ranked 23. Denver will drop tomorrow but probably still be in the top 10. It looks like we are currently the third best lacrosse conference behind runaway leader ACC and solid second place Ivy League.

Denver down to #4, Marquette up to #13, Villanova up to #19. Nice showing for the conference.
